Mississippi Power's Renew Our Rivers continues progress across southeast Mississippi
Gulfport, Miss. - Mississippi Power employees and their family members recently volunteered in multiple Renew Our Rivers cleanups across the company's service territory to improve the safety of waterways for local communities and surrounding wildlife.
“In our centennial year, Renew Our Rivers is continuing to make a significant impact across our service territory,” said Mississippi Power Renew Our Rivers Program Chair PJ Wylie. “The progress we’ve achieved through these recent cleanups has made a significant impact in improving our environment by making it safer and cleaner for future generations.”
Throughout the four events at Biloxi Back Bay, Okatoma Creek, Chunky River and Boley Creek, volunteers recovered a variety of waste from the waterways including tires, furniture, plastic litter and other large debris.
More than 25 employee volunteers participated in the Biloxi Back Bay cleanup and recovered three tons of trash from the beach. At the Okatoma Creek event, more than 30 volunteers from the Pine Belt recovered numerous bags of trash. More than 25 Meridian area employees achieved similar results at the Chunky River.
“This project has become a tradition that my family and I look forward to every year,” said Mississippi Power Line Construction and Maintenance Supervisor Charlie Watson. “It’s always special to fellowship with employees and their families while making a positive change in our community.”
The company’s annual, award-winning environmental stewardship program is continuing its successful 2025 campaign. Fall cleanups include:

- Red Creek
- Pass Christian
- Upper Pascagoula River
- Tchoutacabouffa River
