Mississippi Power volunteers assist seniors during summer heat

Gulfport, Miss - Mississippi Power employees from across the coast collaborated to assist senior citizens in South Mississippi during the hottest time of the summer by donating 100 fans in three Coastal counties.

Through a need identified by the Community Action of South Mississippi, employee volunteers made deliveries to the organization’s offices in Gulfport, Moss Point and Lucedale where they met with seniors from each area.

"By distributing fans to seniors over 60 in our communities, we are addressing their vulnerability to extreme heat,” said Mississippi Power volunteer Candi Dubuisson. “These fans are vital tools for those below the median income, providing immediate relief while helping manage energy consumption — reflecting our commitment to both community well-being and sustainable practices."

The seniors in Gulfport received 50 fans, the seniors in Moss Point received 35 fans and the seniors in Lucedale received 15 fans to help assist with the temperature and energy usage in their respective home areas.
