Mississippi Power completes port project for ship-to-shore power

Gulfport, Miss. - Mississippi Power recently completed a major project at the Port of Gulfport that allows the port to offer ship-to-shore power to its customers.

The Power Delivery and Division Operations team collaborated with the port and contractors to build four berths that can supply dockside power to ships. 

“Having ship-to-shore power availability is a tremendous new amenity at the port that will help it attract new customers,” said Coast Division Manager Mark Loughman, who also serves as president of the Mississippi State Port Authority. “There was a lot of teamwork and synergy to complete this important project safely and successfully.”

The work also increased redundancy for the port.

“We started by collaborating with the port’s engineering firm to determine what was needed to meet the port’s needs,” said Senior Engineering Analyst Patrick Lewis. “There was a lot of research into the type of equipment required and grounding features in addition to the underground work needed for this project. Everything went as smoothly as expected and both teams are satisfied with the new services that the port is now able to offer its customers."
