Gulfport, Miss. – Mississippi Power’s storm directors have been closely monitoring the forecasted severe winter weather that is projected to move across the Southeast in the coming days.
The company routinely performs maintenance on its generation facilities to ensure they are ready to meet high customer demand. Mississippi Power has also made several investments into its power delivery system to increase resiliency and reliability for customers.
“We continue to be in a strong position to meet customer demand and respond to their needs should we see any impacts from this winter storm,” said Spokeswoman Kaila Moran Griffith. “We encourage everyone to remain safe and weather-aware and to prepare their homes now just as we are preparing our own facilities. Our storm team is no stranger to winter weather and is ready to get to work for our customers.”
While most of the possible weather impacts are forecasted to be in the northern part of Mississippi Power’s service territory, crews are ready to respond wherever needed. The company has secured 250 additional resources, including line crews and vegetation management crews, to assist in restoration efforts.
Additional plans include sequestering employees at generation facilities if needed to ensure their safety and ability to maintain the plants. Line crews are also prepared to respond if ice impacts powerlines or other equipment.
