Laurel, Miss. - Mississippi Power’s Laurel line crew recently completed service upgrades at West Jones High School to support a new facility and improve reliability for the surrounding community.
“This project is a great example of our teams thinking beyond the immediate task and looking for opportunities to enhance our system during the process,” said Laurel Area Manager Jake White. “I’m proud of the crew for their teamwork, attention to detail and commitment to serving our customers safely and reliably.”
The work focused on providing new electric service to the high school baseball team’s newly renovated indoor hitting facility, which has been fully enclosed and air conditioned. While on-site, the crew also took the opportunity to enhance reliability for the community by providing additional isolation points and separating the school’s service from neighboring customers.
As a result, if a service interruption occurs nearby, the school will continue to have power — strengthening reliability for both the school and the surrounding area. The project delivered long-term value by improving the local electric system and reducing the potential impact of outages, all while work was already underway.
“For us, it’s all about doing the job right and knowing the work we’re doing will benefit the community for years to come,” said Apprentice Lineman Zylon Hicks. “It’s a good feeling to see everything come together and know we helped make this project come to life.”
